Ways For Teenagers to Make Money
In spite of what they may think, there really are some ways for teenagers to make money. It all depends on the motivation of each individual teenager, as even teenagers as young as 13 years old can find ways to make some spending money of their own. Of course, it also takes a bit of creativity at times, but that may just open some new doors.
Younger teens don’t have the option of getting a part time job as most states require someone to be at least 16 years old in order to be hired for most companies. Ways for teenagers to make money in this age group would include such things as babysitting, lawn work, shoveling snow, washing cars, and other things along these lines. The thing to remember for teens on the younger side is that if there is a need for something, there will be someone who will pay them to do it. Until adults got in on the paper route gig, teenagers used to be able to make money delivering newspapers. That may still be possible in smaller towns with shorter routes.
Older teens have more options open to them when it comes to ways for teenagers to make money. There is usually plenty of seasonal work for teenagers with department stores and mall shops. The Christmas holidays are always busy and these stores need extra help. This is usually the case for the summer, as well. Many shops and stores will hire teenagers to work during the summer months when they are not in school. Occasionally, these summer jobs can work into part time jobs year round. Grocery stores hire teens as stockers, cashiers, and to bag groceries for customers. There are always fast food restaurants. These seem to be one of the best ways for teenagers to make money, as they are always hiring high school students.
If none of the above appeals to your teenager, it may be time to get creative. Things like grocery shopping for people who can’t get out, or running some errands for them, are both good ways to make a little money. Sometimes families need sitters for older members of their family and would not trust a younger teen to do it. This is another form of babysitting, but may pay a bit more due to more responsibility. Have your teenager use their writing or musical abilities to make some money. Their artistic talents can also be used to create things like gift baskets to sell.
There really is no end to the ways for teenagers to make money, even if it’s just by performing services for their own family. Parents don’t mind paying for some extra help around the house. An important thing to remember is to never be embarrassed or afraid to ask for a job. You won’t find one if you never ask.
