Toddler Educational Toys
Toddler educational toys are designed to be age appropriate for your toddler’s safety and enjoyment. Manufacturers have standards they must follow but there is no reason you, as a parent, should not have information to help you better make decisions in providing a secure experience for your toddler. Any fabric should be flame retardant. All stuffed animals and toys should be washable. Lead free paint should be the only paint used on toys. All art materials should say non toxic. Materials used in toddler educational toys should be tested and pass government standards.
You may want to reconsider toys that are being passed down or bought used. Though, some of these are perfectly fine, there are others that would not meet the current standards. Also, another thing to consider is the noise of the toy. Is your toddler still easily startled? Do you want to hear this over and over again? Repetition is normal when the toddler is first introduced to something he or she really enjoys.
What sort of toys do toddlers really enjoy? Those that are pulled by a little rope or string are very popular. In considering this toy, you want to be sure the rope is sturdy and not very long. The rope should be able to withstand twisting. Parts, like eyes and noses, should be secure and firmly attached. Thin plastic toys are not recommended as they break easily and leave jagged edges that can cut. Avoid marbles and any sort of small balls. In toddlers 3 years and younger, choking is the worry we have. It can happen so quickly and cause death in moments. Pick toddler educational toys that you and your toddler will enjoy doing together. Large puzzles of just a few pieces can entertain a toddler for hours. Toys such as building blocks can be a fascinating way to spend an afternoon. Starting out with soft ones and working up to old fashion wooden blocks may be best.
The old fashion stacker toys are a lot of fun for you and your toddler. The shapes and sizes provide more teachable moments in identifying shapes and colors. This also teaches and sharpens eye/hand coordination. Activity sets that represent different skill levels, while pretending to be the mail man or police officer, teaches the toddler the action and reaction. Not all toddler educational toys are made to stay inside.
When your toddler is ready for a rider toy, he or she will be thrilled to zoom around on the driveway or back yard. The motor skills will naturally sharpen themselves, as you continue to teach your toddler how to play safely and make the most of this riding toy. Washable chalk is also a great way to let your toddler begin to express his or her artistic side. It’s great for you, as you can just wash it away at the end of play time. There are plenty of wonderful toys to choose from. Follow the guidelines in choosing your toddler educational toys.
